Stitched vistas

Thursday, 10 August 2017

Actually I don't know why I was never really into doing panorama images (and I'm still not that much), but this year it seems like I start to enjoy them a little more than I did. So these days every now and then I stitch some pictures for a wider view and I would like to display some of the results (which I haven't already shown in another former posting) now here in my blog. All the pictures you can see here were made in Austria in 2017 and actually none of them was planned.

Stitched vistas

After a clear night the first light slowly comes up.

I just had to enclose two more images from Cabo dos Bahias here, like this gorgeous scenery ...

This image was actually taken on Valdés. But because it's the only presentable penguin picture from the peninsula, I decided to post it her in this entry among all the other penguins.

A very fragile setting on the forest floor.

Portrait shot of some Oxlips. I love their soft pastel appearance.

Cozy days part I – Patagonia part II

Friday, 3 February 2017

For our last stay in Patagonia we decided to go to Argentina‘s Lanín National Park. It was created in 1937 to protect and preserve an important area of Andean-Patagonian Forests, especially the Monkey Puzzle Trees, the Raulí and the Roble Beech, which in Argentina are exclusive in this national park. The park is named after its impressive and picture-perfectly shaped volcano Lanín. This inactive volcano is about 3,700 meters high and stretches also onto chilean land into the Villarrica National Park. Since our trip came slowly to an end at this point we took it easy and spent about one relaxing week there. We only drove very short distances and just took moderate day hikes.

A little later they are already in full bloom in the forest and wetlands.

Two of the countless rainbows that guided our ways.

Cleaning up

Saturday, 23 May 2015

Bad weather means time for cleaning up. And cleaning up means posting ;) So be prepared for wild mix of images I took this spring and which I forgot of or which didn’t fit into any of the former blog entries. You’ll see pictures taken in Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic in chronological order.

Cleaning up

This ridge is called the Schafszähne which actually means "sheep teeth". Taken after a rainy days as the night finally fell in.

Montane moments

Tuesday, 4 April 2017

The High Tauern National Park isn't only Austria's biggest one, it's also the oldest national park here. Established already back in 1981, just one year after I came into this world. And more important, among other things, due to its age, size and the inaccessibility of large parts it's probably the wildest place you can find in Austria, I guess. So there would be so much more to explore, I still haven't yet. Because when I go there I'm actually always focused on alpine ibexes or maybe on the red deer rut in autumn. Nevertheless this place is always good for some rather unexpected encounters and moments and sometimes the one or another experience apart from my main proposals finds its way into my camera. You will find some of them in this blog entry.

Montane moments

Just gorgeous late summer conditions in the early morning.

A pigeon on the other side of the trees.

Of course Lanín is the heart, main attraction and the eyecatcher in the park. It always amazes me how snow covered mountain summits in clear conditions already start to lighten up when dawn actually is still far away.

As far as I can remember, we only spent abount three days on the coast. Somehow we were much more attracted by the inlands. Although this shot is way too kitschy, somehow I like it and I actually showed it already among my 2015 favorites a few weeks back. I'm pretty sure this crazy shaped rock called Kannesteinen is quite famous and probably photographed a million times. But nevertheless I haven't heard or seen of it until we stumbled over it by accident on our first day at the coast. Once there, I gave it a try.

I couldn’t find out the name of this mountain, but it made a great background on most of my images I captured here. Especially when there’s a lovely sunset like that day, just right after we arrived and started hiking around.

During my last alpine ibex project at the end of May I discovered a huge amount of these cozy Spring Pasque Flowers on the meadows at an altitude of approximately 2.500m above sea level. But nonetheless I focused on the ibexes and not on the flowers.

… which were worth a closer look.

Sudden appearance of a kingfisher on one of my favorite locations to spend a sunny evening.

A very well shaped primerose I found in the floodplains of Upper Austria earlier this spring.

Finally the entire mountain range appeared and the calm lake made a perfect mirror.

That morning I decided to create some wide panorama images to capture the entire beauty of the scene. I would like to show two of them here. This one was taken right before the sun hit the mountain summits ...
